Purpose of Job:

The Payroll Administrator is responsible for processing bi-weekly payroll for over 700 union and non-union, hourly employees while ensuring a safe and professional work environment, which fosters BEST culture, mission, and values. The incumbent is responsible for completing various activities including but not limited to: processing payroll, investigating payroll discrepancies, reconciliations, reporting, maintaining SOP’s and guides while staying up-to-date with Employment Standards and collective agreements. The ideal candidate will demonstrate superior performance in accordance to the Key Performance Indicator (KPI) requirements, anticipate and adapt to change as needed and must be able to communicate clearly and effectively.

Reporting Structure

The Payroll Administrator reports directly to the Payroll & Manager.


  • Process payroll for over 700 union & non-union hourly employees

  • Process garnishments & off-cycle payments as needed

  • Investigate payroll discrepancies

  • Personnel file maintenance (new hires, re-hires, rate changes, personal info changes etc.);

  • Process ROE’s

  • Process garnishments as required

  • Reconcile and pay AB/BC WCB invoices;

  • Prepare monthly union dues and seniority reports

  • Remain up-to-date with Employment Standards, union collective agreements, and company policies;

  • Provide Payroll SOP training for new Site Managers

  • Update Hourly Payroll guide

  • Prepare adhoc reports as required

  • Other duties as required.

Skills Required:

  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Outlook, & intermediate knowledge of Excel);

  • Attention to detail & accuracy

  • Excellent interpersonal & communicational (written & verbal) skills

  • Must be able to work independently with little supervision & in a team environment.

Education & Experience Required:

  • PCP certification or in progress an asset

  • Minimum 1-year related work experience

  • Experience using ADP Workforce Now considered an asset

  • Acceptable security and criminal record check
